Serving Seattle

Accounting, payroll, and tax for Seattle businesses

Seattle is the most expensive city in Washington to get your compliance wrong. It is also where proactive advice pays for itself fastest.

Seattle, Washington

Built for how Seattle does business

Seattle service businesses carry the state's heaviest stack: the city's own B&O tax, the highest minimum wage in the country among major cities, dense licensing, and labor rules that change more often than most owners can track. Agencies, firms, studios, and practices here do excellent work and then leak margin to administrative friction.

The local tax picture

The Seattle stack is real: city B&O, Washington state B&O, destination-based sales tax, and payroll obligations that reward getting it right the first time. The city B&O rules just changed in a big way: on January 1, 2026 the threshold jumped from $100,000 to $2 million of annual gross receipts, so many smaller firms stopped owing Seattle B&O entirely, while rates went up for everyone above the line. Knowing which side of that line you sit on, and pricing for it, is exactly the kind of thing we watch.

Straight answers

Seattle questions, answered

Does Seattle have its own B&O tax?

Yes, once annual gross receipts pass $2 million. Voters raised the threshold from $100,000 to $2 million effective January 1, 2026 and raised the rates above it. Under $2 million, you may owe no Seattle B&O at all; over it, the higher rates belong in your pricing. We prepare and file both city and state.

Is Seattle payroll really that different?

It is stricter than everywhere nearby: the city's minimum wage, paid sick and safe time rules, and scheduling rules for some industries. Our payroll service prices those rules in so your labor costs are known, not discovered.

Do we need to be near your office?

No. Seattle clients work with us over video and a shared QuickBooks file, and you are always welcome to swing by our Federal Way office. We would rather save you the I-5 traffic than make meetings a commute.
